As from yesterday we have noticed a lot of bee activity. There is quite a lot of bees flying in and out with pollen in their sacks. Also around lunch time my new workers are out and about, just outside the hive exercising their wings.
I am so excited, I have not opened the hive, but have lifted the lid. Bees crawling around on the frames where they keep their stores. I did pull the floor board out and just cleaned it by hand. Planning to pull out the mesh floor and brush it off. Otherwise they seem fine. I don’t know how much of food they have got left in their frames but as the weather has not warmed sufficiently for me to check I will leave it and hope for the best. I did feed them a fair amount last year. They are forecasting a really bad cold spell in two days time, but for the last 3-4 days it has been very mild during the day, and even plus during the night. Tomorrow they are forecasting + 10, on Thursday snow and – 10. So fingers crossed all goes well. But so far so good.
If nothing else I have been looking at the possibility of giving them the “sugar cake” so will keep that option open.
